concept and comments: Drawing is a skill everybody can learn. Just like
writing it takes time to learn.
Here, at this point in my life I still did not understand
what makes a drawing great. No matter how many great
masters drawings I saw. I did recognize it when I saw it.
I knew I had not had the chance to
practice enough. I was divorced,I was a foreigner, hardly
spoke English, had no family and I had a two year old.
When I say practice I mean hundreds and thousands of
sketches every day. Then maybe I would be able to draw
freely enough to develope a great line quality.
The incredible line quality I recognized in Rembrand.
His fluency and freedom in his ink drawings are spiritual.
My glance recalls a photo taken when I was about 3-4 years
old, (you can see it on the title page).
Here I still watch the world with great suspicion.
