concept and comments:
I remember running
my fingers over that cold, glassy, smooth, shiny, beautiful
surface; one 12"x12" marble tile that I used for the top
of a pedestal, left over from my previous installation.
And I asked myself, "What can I create with this timeless
material?" A straight gift from nature, the gift of nature
which needed the human touch to bring out its beauty by
polishing it. Without the human touch we would not be able
to see into the stone. And this is the reason that I have
to reach in and bring out for the viewer my discovery
which is a joy. A reward that I want to share in
excitement. These stones gave me a spiritual experience
where I felt connected to nature and the collective
consciousness and that has to be shared. We have to look
at the individual titles, just like human beings, as unique
individuals. I was very excited when I discovered that the
sliced stones could be sequential, similar to photography.
We can see an enlarged image from the previous cut. The
piece titled "Splash Forest" and also "Master Drawings"
looks like the camera was zoomed in and out. First I
designed this piece, Splash Forest to be horizontal on
the wall. But I find it more interesting and unique this
way.
